Q:
Can anyone tell me please, which of the numerous ports in Samos do the cruise ships use, trying to plan our visit to Samos and in particular Kakkari. Thank you

Richard, I'm afraid I don't know which port the ship docks at, but, unless I have the wrong village, I believe the resort you wish to visit is 'Kokkari'. Happy cruising Jan

Richard - we called there on the Queen Victoria just over a week ago (see my review) and anchored at sea at the port of Vathy (Samos Town) according to the map we had in our "Daily Post". Hope this is of use.

Spot on. I had actually read your excellent review but had not realised it was the same itinerary as mine. The web has also informed me that Vathy and Samos town have now blended into one. The good news is that Kokkari, my main target to visit, is pretty close to Vathy. Thanks again and happy cruising. Richard

Hi Richard, this one has even foxed me! There seem to be 2 ports in Samos that I can find, but I suggest you ask over on the forum section of tripadvisor andhopefully someone will know where the ship docks and the answer! Let us know so I can file it for future use!

Hi a.n. I am happy to now offer my views on Kokkari and the Queen Victoria’s visit to the island of Samos. We anchored off the port of Samos/Vathy. They are actually two towns which over the years have merged together. Samos is a tender port. The port itself is attractive but also busy. A plethora of restaurants, cafes and somewhat tacky gift shops line the harbour on the opposite side of the busy main road. These facilities soon became overcrowded with ships visitors.
Approximately 400 yards from the landing point is a taxi rank. We took a taxi to Kokkarri for 10 Euro. What a gem of a place, very tourist friendly, and reputedly the most picturesque village on the island. The main waterfront in the village is well away from the main road and has numerous colourful and well positioned restaurants, cafes and up-market gift shops. It was also, during our three hour visit, much more sedate and relaxing. Well worth a visit and we rated it a close second to Santorini on this particular cruise.

As noted above, Vathy is the place, it is a tender visit. Thanks again for your help. Richard
