Royal Rendezvous for Cunard Queens

Thousands of cruise and maritime fans gathered on shores last week, to observe the Cunard Queens sail from New York for the first and only time. The Statue of Liberty provided a fitting backdrop for the majestic rendezvous of Cunard Line's three luxury cruise liners -Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth 2 and the new Queen Victoria, which made her maiden call to New York last week.

The celebration started with a whistle salute from each se liner, followed by a regal convoy through New York harbour, illuminated by fireworks, as they departed on their individual voyages. It is the first time that three Cunard Queens have been in service at the same time in the company's 168-year history. Queen Victoria was launched on December 10, 2007 by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall in Southampton. Following her celebratory maiden call to New York, she embarks on her maiden world cruise; a 105-day journey stopping in 37 ports in 23 countries, while the Queen Elizabeth 2 departs on her 26th and final world cruise.

My friend and I sailed on the QE2 on this tandem crossing, the sighting of the 3 ships and the fireworks etc, were fantastic, but bitterely disappointed with the standard on the QE", the food, being the main problem, 2nd sitting in the mauratania restaurant, very poor quality, always luke warm, choice of dishes very disappointing, and the presentation no better than a cafeteria meal. Cunard, you have ruined your reputation, with this standard

We witnessed this exciting event - firstly onboard the Queen Mary. We got up at 4am to see the 3 ships meet up prior to entering the waters around New York and watched all make their way into harbour, whilst Land of Hope & Glory was played over the loudspeeker on board - very moving. In the evening we took a ferry trip on the river following the convoy all the way to the Statue of Liberty whilst enjoying champagne, fine wines and canapes. A thrilling experience all round and worth the early rise
