The Queen Set to Bid QE2 FarewellOn 2nd June 2008 The Queen will make a farewell trip to Cunard’s QE2 in Southampton. QE2, the most famous cruise ship in the world, was launched by Her Majesty on 20th September 1967 at Clydebank. In forty years the ship has cruised over 5.6 million nautical miles, has crossed the Atlantic over eight-hundred times, has sailed twenty-five world cruises and in November will leave Cunard’s service. The Queen has only visited the ship twice since the original launch – once on 1st May 1969 and again on 27th July 1990 to mark the line’s 150th anniversary. Cunard's President and Managing Director, Carol Marlow, said, "We are delighted and honoured that The Queen has chosen to visit QE2 to wish her farewell. Her Majesty has taken a close interest in the ship over the last forty years, and I am certain this will be a memorable occasion for all involved.” Details of this special visit will be announced soon.
