November 2005 31 days three continents adventure south america down to the falkland islands - mauretania class deck five forward outside cabin 4 berth for two - good large cabin for the 2 of us with the two lower beds - no problem - large bathroom - shower/no bath but lots of space for the just the two of us - inside 2 berth cabins ie with a ladder for the top berth would be fine a short trip -not for 31 days! this ship was built for the just atlantic crossing 5/6 days! The cunard line dress code is formal most of the time for dinner -95% of the time so cabin space is important. - the restaurant was good - this restaurant - the mauretania was originaly the fist class restaurant when the ship was on the atlantic crossings uk to usa- located on a high deck -we had requested a window for 2 which we did get - the service very good - food first class - bottle wine about £18 plus. Entertainment good and information on places etc we were going to vist - excursions were good - sometimes we did our own - just getting a taxi from a port - if four of you are doing this better value - just arrange a costing before!
Next trip QE2 again 2006 - southern delights 30 days- this time trying the P2 cabin middle ship again porthole with large bathroom and bath -P1 cabins window! - Britannia Grill - the cabins are larger - but only a little from the 4 berth for the 2 of us on the 5 deck - but the service/food in the grill restaurants are special - the choice great - lunch you are given the dinner menu anything you would like that is not on the menu - the grills are small intimate dining rooms eat at any time for dinner between 7-9.30pm one sitting the table is yours for the whole cruise - these grills - special - and so is the food/presentation - have to say the mauretania food similar maybe not all the choice - but very good. ps anyone have comments re the Queens Grill!
