We booked the QE2 for my husbands 40th and was not sure what to expect of such an old ship, especially one that's being taken out of service in a few months time.
We were very pleasantly surprised with what we found from the minute we stepped on board.
As usual, we were taken to our cabin by one of the stewards where our luggag was already waiting for us. Although the cabin was compact, the utilisation of the space available was amazing.
Although the cabin and the parts of the ship was looking its age, everywhere was very clean and the crew were still doing their best to keep up the good condition. Many times we found re painting happening on the decks which surprised me knowing that she'll probably be having a full re fit in only a few months.
The crew were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and any request - even to the Cruise Director himself, was carried out immediately.
The entertainment on board was very good and we particularly enjoyed an afternoon in the Grand Lounge trying to solve the Murder Mystery played out by the crew. There was always something going on throughout the ship for people of all ages and capabilities and none of these events were announced over the tannoy, allowing full relaxation if that's what you wanted. We find the announcements very annoying when sailing with other cruise lines and it was lovely to be able to rest without the constant interruption of the Cruise Staff announcing another way they could make money out of the passengers.
We were in the Mauritania Restaurant being served a seven course silver service meal which was second to none every night. Breakfast could be a bit slow, but that all added to the relaxation of the cruise. The Lido was very well staffed and extremely efficient (unlike the Queen Victoria) and the food was so good that we even ate with the Captain in the Lido one night which is a very rare sight on other ships!
Overall, the QE2 is still one of the best ships in the world and I am very sad that I won't get the chance to sail on her again before she is destined for Dubai.

| Quality of Food | |
| We ate mostly in the Mauritania restaurant but the Lido was also exceptional. | | Entertainment | |
| The shows were good despite the small stage and the daily activities were suited to all ages and abilities. The juggler wasn't very good even though we were still docked at the time of the show! | | Shore Excursions | n/a |
| The free Shuttle bus took us to the town centres, so there was no need for us to pay for the excursions. | | Staff | |
| All staff were very attentive and all requests were carried out immediately. Even the Cruise Director himself honoured a request we thought would not be possible! | | Children's Facilities | n/a |
| | Onboard Activities | |
| The daily activities were suited to all ages and abilities. | | Cabins | |
| Although the cabin was small, the use of space was incredible and exceeded expectations. We were in an inside cabin and even managed a few games on the Wii console, so they can't be that bad!!! | | Overall Rating | |
