QE2 Transatlantic

Cruise Ship: Queen Elizabeth 2 Sailed: April, 2008
Destination: Transatlantic Age: 46-55
Having previously only cruised with P & O on Oriana and Aurora, we couldn't let Cunard's QE2 go without having been on it. We were not disappointed though as we had some good advice before travelling. The restaurant you choose makes a difference to the cruise exprience you get, so we booked for the Caronia (1 sitting) restaurant. The food was outstanding and the service, although very efficient, lacked the warmth of personality that we were used to aboard P & O ships. In places, the ship looked a little tired, this we expected of a 40 year old ship, but what a performer it was. We came across the atlantic from New York to Southampton in a force 7 in April 2008. The ship performed admirably, cruising at 27.5 knots or above, and not the hint of a rise and fall, just a gentle rock from side to side as I believe they use the stabilisers sparingly to prevent drag. The entertainment was not outstanding, other than a concert pianist that gave several excellent recitals, but the traditional afternoon tea's in the Queens room were an experience not to be missed. The swimming pools are important on a ship to our teenage sons and the QE2, although only two pools, one inside and out, did not disappoint as they were deep enough to swim in properly and kept at a good temperature. The very large inside pool was great fun when the weather was at its worst and the ship had a gentle sway from side to side! Such a shame this old Queen is going to be parked up in Dubai as a Hotel, as it cannot be appreciated to its full unless you are half way across the Atlantic on what is still the fastest cruise ship in the world!

Excellent Concert Pianist. Good selection of films. Live entertainment a little disappointing.

Staff4
Very professional service, but lacked warmth and attentiveness.

Onboard Activities3
Plenty to do and a good selection of shops. Pity all the QE2 merchandise was tacky stuff made in China and very overpriced.
Cabins2
Of all the places on board, the cabin was the one place that showed the ships 40 years of age.
