We decided to book this cruise in the final year of the QE2 as we had travelled Transatlantic 20 years ago, thanks to my Dad winning a competition. As we lost him 9 years ago we decided to make the trip in his memory. We were not to be disappointed.
Embarkation at Southampton could not be any easier, as we unloaded our bags from the taxi, they were collected and we were not to see them again until we got to our cabin. The paperwork was dealt with very efficiently, and before long we found ourselves in the departure lounge. After an hours wait we were called to board the ship, where we were greeted by a very helpful crew member who showed us to our cabin. We were able to unpack and familiarise ourselves with our surroundings in plenty of time before Sailaway, even with an introduction from our cabin stewardess Jeanne.
We decided to opt for a table for 6 in the Mauretannia Restaurant - we couldn't have asked to be sat with nicer people, with whom we hit it off with straight away, and with the help of our waiters Santosh and Gerald we couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. We decided to have breakfast in the restaurant as well, and very quickly we lost the need to order as Santosh knew exctly what we would be wanting and he always ensured that there was a glass of apple juice waiting every morning.
We were more than happy with our cabin (4094) afterall we were only sleeping in it. The added benefit of an outside cabin meant we could keep up to speed with what was going on wherever we were.
We booked shore excursions in every port because we were first time visitors and felt that they would give us the opportunity to see as much as possible. We thoroughly enjoyed the Total Riviera Experience which allowed us to visit so many places in a relatively short space of time. The highlight for us on this tour was us having lunch in the Cafe de Paris in Monte Carlo - truly wonderful.
There was plenty to do onboard. We watched the dance classes and even had a go at line dancing on numerous occasions with Michelle. We had a go at the quizzes in The Golden Lion which Gun kept in impeccable order. On the last couple of days we even had a go at the crafting activities. There was always something going on, even if you only wanted to watch and not take part.
The entertainment onboard was good, with some entertaining shows by the Royal Cunard Singers and Dancers. Warren Smith does a fantastic job as Cruise Director and has a truly special rapor with the guests. We thoroughly enjoyed shows by Mark Donoghue, John Evans and Jon Courtenay, so much so that we went twice.
Each evening would finish with a trip to the Midnight Buffet, and the Gala Buffet was a wonderful display of the artistic talents of the chefs onboard.
Overall a fantastic holiday that will be remembered for years to come.
Thank you QE2 for 40 wonderful years of service - my only regret is that I won't be able to sail on you again

| Thomas is dedicated to the QE2, what this man knows about the history of Cunard and the QE2 is something to me marvelled at.
Michelle never stops, she is always doing something and making sure the guests are kept occupied.
Warren is fantastic at his job and Cunard should see him as the jewel in the QE2's crown.
Santosh and Gerald made you feel so welcome and built up a real rapport with our table making you feel at home. | | Children's Facilities | n/a |
