We took our first cruise this year on the QE2, a short cruise called “summer getaway” but truly memorable.
Taking advantage of the Cunard–Hilton package + free parking allowed us to travel the day before starting the holiday relaxed and comfortable. Our baggage taken from us at the hotel, and was waiting in our stateroom on boarding.

We chose an outside cabin which was comfortable but narrow in places. The view of the world was through a small porthole but this was quite charming.
Our restaurant was the Caronia which we used predominantly for both breakfast and dinner; Lunch was mostly taken in the Lido self-service restaurant.
Quality of both food and service we found excellent and the staff polite and most willing to help with all requests.
The Lido which we used for lunch and midnight buffet (Gluttons that we are) again matched the service and variety of the Caronia but with a difference in choice.

Early entertainment most evenings was watching one of the shows in the grand theater, we could not find complaint with any show, the resident dancers and singers were excellent,
“Eve Sheratt” a female vocalist was very good with some songs visibly moving the audience.
The comedian/juggler “Pete Matthews” was also excellent.
All the areas for relaxing met any individuals’ mood; we sat outside the Yacht club one evening as we enjoyed the music from both the live band and DJ whilst we cruised from Bilbao heading for Le Verdon, we will always remember these special moments.

Service overall was very good, Embarkation and disembarkation flawless in the processes used to transfer the mass of passengers which never seemed to make you feel that you were part of a herd that at times when travelling on commercial airlines or package holidays we have felt.

Since we have no benchmark with other cruise operators or modern ships it would be wrong to try to draw comparisons but we both feel privileged to have sailed on what will always be one of the iconic cruise liners ever launched.

We will definitely cruise again.
