We sailed on a 5 night cruise to Bilbao, La Rocelle and Guernsey. For once, a holiday exceeded my expectations! On arrival at Southampton our cases were taken from the back of our car and we next saw them in our cabin. We were in a M6 inside bunk bed room, which would be best suited for just one person..but what the heck we didnt spend much time in it! It was spotlessly clean and very nicely decorated..not at all outdated. The food we had in the Mauretania was the same as in the other higher class restuarants. Wine was reasonable, as were Bombay Sapphire Gins at £2.50 plus free tonic!
The service was second to none. We had a lovely steward. The whole ship looked like it had just been done up...I hope the Sultan prince doesnt rip it all out.
The entertainment was mixed. The theatre was used for films and 2 talks, whilst most of the musical shows took place in the Lounge which was small in size.
The afternoon tea wasnt as good as I was expecting, but it was pleasant enough. it was difficult to get a table in the Ballroom but the same tea was provided in all restarants.
The formal nights were lovely. I didnt feel like a stowaway being in the Mauretania class, in fact i think we got the best deal. We were sat next to a headmistress and a teacher.
All in all, a fantastic time. I would recommend Cunard as they knew what they were doing, and they do it well. If there is any chance you could get on the QE2 before she retires take it!
