We tried out QM2 as a floating hotel alternative to a UK short break. It was our first cruise without our 15 year old who was away with school and a good opportunity to try what we thought to be an upmarket cruise line. Having sailed on Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity and P&O we were very disappointed in the service on board. The cabin was lovely - however we were upgraded from deck 6 to 12 which to be honest was not a smart move as were then away from all entertainment areas and activities and has the thump from deck above. The evening food, when it came was lovely. Poor service in the restaurant at lunch ( dirty tables in Kings Court, coud not get a drink) and breakfast ( turned away at 8.40am although advertised until 9am so had to go to buffet on 1st day) There was a general feeling that staff were not happy and several moaned to us. The only happy staff seemed to be the Spa staff. Hardly the White Star Service they advertised. Loads of silly niggles ( e.g. only one bath robe in cabin, no drinks in theatre, out of date information was on display, library closed, wine arriving after 1st course ) and nowhere near the polite and friendly standard we have experienced on other cruise lines. We thought we would try it as a taster for a longer journey to New York but we would not return to Cunard. Spoke to other passengers and we all felt the same way. A missed opportunity to catch new customers and we felt we were second class passenegers possibly due to cabin grade and length of cruise . If you have never cruised before you may have thought it ok.
