I would think that you had the same 'up-grade' as we had last December(Caribbean). That is from a B5/B6 to a 'sheltered' or Hull balcony. The B5/B6's have obstructed views due to the lifeboats being directly below on the Promenade deck. However, they have glass fronted balconies, and most people we spoke to said that, on balance , they were preferable to the metal fronted balconies. We had a double up-grade due to my comments(Via the TA) that the first actually 'dropped' us four decks. We finished up on Deck six (B1), midships, directly opposite the central stairwell/lifts. This actually proved very convenient, with none of the disturbance that might have been thought, (due to excellent soundproofing). We were also directly below the promenade deck and Kings Court, but experienced no disturbance from these either. I agree that if 'sun-lounging', the metal fronted balconies only offer a view of the sky. However, leaving and arriving back in New York (plus every moonlit night) leaning on your own rail, with drink in hand, was one of the most agreeable/pleasant, memories of the cruise.

oh dear oh dear, just a reminder, the QM2 is a liner NOT a cruise ship ( there are only 2 liners now in the world; QM2 and QE2 and in November only one, the QM2). She is a very special liner, the best by far in the world. If you had an upgrade it must have been from an inside to an outside - or from the cheaper for or aft of the ship into the middle ( more stable). At 65 you should know better! I have just returned after a fantastic crossing to and from new York ( what an adventure! a review will follow soon...we had a breakdown and a stormyet it enhanced the experience. ) QM2 is peerless . Poor and Ordinary or other cruises do their best and are good value, but remember they are cruise ships NOT liners. The difference between a cruiser and a Liner £300 million. ( Freedom of the SEas cost £500million to build two years ago; QM2 cost £800million 5 years ago...I rest my case). In every sense you get what you pay for...QM2 is the best. Sorry there were niggles for you...you will never surpass a transatlantic crossing in extraordinary luxury!

Who cares if it is a liner or a cruise ship? If you are island hopping in the Caribbean you don't need to go twice the speed of other ships! Plus you get decent balconies on cruise ships ( and a decent main resaurant! ).

You would care If you were in the Caribbean during a Hurricane. QM2 wouldn't skip any ports of call but a cruise ship would be stranded. What is your problem with Britannia restaurant? Do you not get the message that you are one on his own...everyone else feels they get extraordinary service. The baconies on QM2 are wonderful...though I expect you couldn't afford a QM2 balcony. Still that shouldn't stop you having a fabulous experience. Do I detect a misery tht no matter the experience would always resent the fact that there were richer passengers on board. GET OVER IT you sad little man!

I was under the distinct impression that this website area was for posting reviews, not for issuing personal attacks upon it's contributors. Everyone is surely entitled to their own opinion no matter how much YOU may disagree with it. This site generally attracts a polite, often humorous but mainly courteous banter amoungst the contributors. What a great shame that you are unable to do likewise. P.S. You don't know the first thing about me, so please don't jump to your own misguided conclusions.

Deck 4 is billed as 'enclosed balconies'. I would have thought any balcony, with access to fresh air and the chance of a more panoramic view, would have been preferable to an 'Oceanview' or 'inside'stateroom.

But is it worth the extra money going Transatlantic during Winter months?

Yes, the variation in Atlantic weather does not have too great an influence on trans Atlantic voyages. The ship is designed for these crossings, no matter what the weather: hence the inside spaces and facilities. Have a nice time. Richard

we never have an oceanview or inside cabin, always a balcony so could only imagine our 2 floor -- down -- upgrade was to allow us to be nearer the entertainment etc, Please all you people who thought we didn't have the most amazing experience of being on the worlds leading liner, IT WAS MAGICAL!
