We have recently returned from the Maiden World Cruise on Queen Victoria. We are still reeling from the amazing experience we had both aboard and on shore. It was our first cruise so, unlike many passengers onboard, we had nothing to compare the ship to which was possibly an advantage. The public areas are beautifully designed and elegant. The staterooms are comfortable and obviously the more you pay,the better the size and facilities. There were a few 'snagging' issues initially but most of these were dealt with as the cruise progressed and the staff onboard worked hard to keep all the guests happy-which is no mean feat! I think the ship is probably best suited to shorter 'destination' cruises due to its size and facilities, although there was a comprehensive daily entertainment schedule to keep us all busy on the long stretches at sea during the World Cruise. We were a little disappointed with the many container ports we docked at,sometimes a lengthy shuttle bus ride from the main city we were visiting. This cut into the short time we often had on shore and also meant we were obliged to pay for expensive tours to ensure we didn't miss the boat!
However, we learnt as we went along and we made good use of the excellent library ,researching what we could manage on our own in the many countries we visited. Overall it was a fantastic way to see a snapshot of the world and we'll trasure the memories for years to come.
