Having previously been on two QE2 full World Cruises, we thought we would try Cunard's new ship Queen Victoria. The itineraries were similar but Queen Victoria gave us fewer overnight stays because of the lower cruising speed. We did however call at all the advertised ports which was not the case on QE2.
Overall, Queen Victoria is a very impressive ship with plenty of space in the public areas which meant no overcrowding. The ship's decor is attractive and the standard of the finish was generally acceptable although there were some minor exceptions.
The swimming pools and open deck areas were excellent although it was unfortunate that there were no changing facilities near either pool. We had to change in the gym changing rooms
Of the main public rooms, the theatre and Queen's Room were excellent features and the library, gym, card rooms and computer rooms provided very good facilities.
We dined in the Britannia Restaurant which was of a similar standard to restaurants on other cruise ships but with a level of service not quite up to QE2's standard. The Todd English and the Lido self service cafeteria gave a high standard alternative.
The entertainment was similar to that provided on other ships but we were disappointed with the lack of informative port lecturers. Also Queen Victoria does not have a dedicated cinema which meant there was no alternative to the main evening entertainment and on a long cruise, this was a disadvantage.
As on previous cruises Cunard gave full World Cruise passengers an excellent selection of cocktail parties and a splendid on shore World Cruise Dinner.
The cabin was as we expected except storage of clothes was a problem because of shortage of drawers. We experienced a persistent plumbing problem in the cabin which was one of a number of teething problems with the ship. Cunard have provided acceptable compensation for the inconvenience we suffered.
Overall an enjoyable experience and we will be looking to travel on Queen Victoria in the future.
